Monday 11th May

Today we received the news we did not want to hear. The PET scan revealed that the cancer has grown around my aorta, and spread into my kidney and abdomen, so is now completely inoperable. All they can offer is palliative care - slowing down the growth of the cancer, and reducing my pain. It means I have maybe six months left on planet earth. We are absolutely in "only a miracle will do" territory.

We have been overwhelmed with all the messages, love, support and prayers we have received - thank you all so much. Sorry I haven't been able to reply to each one individually.

We will meet with some oncologists in 2/3 weeks to discuss palliative care. My brother and two of my sisters arrive in Auckland from UK on Wednesday evening, for what will hopefully be a wonderful week.

  7. Thank God for all the medical services we have - but thank and praise Him even more that we don't have to accept their dire diagnosis as they reckon on a result that doesn't include God. We continue to pray that His Kingdom will spread throughout your body so there's no room left for any cancer that is not of Him. Have a great time with your UK family:)

  8. Oh Phil, what can I say? Not sure Bible quotes are always the most helpful, but praying for Paul's peace and state of mind for you as he writes in Philippians 1:18-21 for you. "I eagerly expect and hope that I will in no way be ashamed, but will have sufficient courage so that now as always Christ will be exalted in my body, whether by life or by death. For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain." And still praying for a miracle, so God can be glorified through a miraculous healing for you, and so we get to keep you a lot longer xx (Sr. Kate Hatton)

  11. Phil, I was utterly devastated to hear your news whilst I was in hospital having surgery (a cancerous tumour removed from my colon). During the days of my recovery from the surgery I have continually prayed throughout each day that yourself and your family would have a deep sense and awareness of God's Presence, Peace, Healing and His Love surrounding you minute by minute, just as friends have been praying this for me. I also pray that yourself and your family will have the strength each day to look to Jesus who cares so, so much for you!!
